For the Brazilian artist, putting her soul into 'Funk Generation' is part of taking care of herself as she said of the April 2024 project, 'I was like, I want an album like this - in case I die I'm going to leave an album that I'm proud of.'

AceShowbiz - Anitta didn't think she would make it in her battle with a mystery illness in 2022. The "Ahi" hitmaker admitted that she was "going to die" when making her sixth studio album, "Funk Generation".

The 31-year-old reflected on her health issues during her "Today" show appearance on Friday, May 31. "I was super, super unhealthy," she recalled. "I got really sick and was so physically ill I couldn't work."

"I hadn't stopped working in so many years," she continued sharing. "It was a big wake up call that I physically couldn't do many things that I loved doing because of my health. I had to take time to take care of myself."

For Anitta, putting her soul into "Funk Generation" is part of taking care of herself. "I made 'Funk Generation' in the hospital," she said of the project, which was released in April. "I was like, I want an album like this - in case I die I'm going to leave an album that I'm proud of."

"I'm really proud of this album, and I didn't do it thinking about streams and algorithms and numbers," the Brazilian artist further elaborated. "I thought just about having fun and loving what I did."

Anitta decided to create the album after her helplessness in the hospital forced her into a reality check and "changed (her) whole mentality." She said, "I just wasted so much time of my life trying to reach goals, and please people and be a success."

Anitta never received a diagnosis for her condition, which left her hospitalized for five months. Luckily, she is fully recovered now.

Anitta previously came clean about her health woes in July 2022. At the time, she revealed that she was diagnosed with endometriosis after nine years of suffering and misdiagnoses.

"Seek more than one doctor, more than one opinion. If one doesn't solve it... go to another until it solves it," she stated. "It's not normal for us to live with this pain like this forever."
