AceShowbiz - The real reason behind Suri Cruise's decision to drop her famous father's last name has been revealed. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter, now known as Suri Noelle, reportedly chose her new name to "praise her mother."
Suri uses her mother's middle name Noelle as her surname in place of her father's last name. "She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name," a source tells Page Six. The source believes that the 18-year-old made the change because she "wants her own identity."
Suri allegedly also wishes to stay away from the limelight by using the new name. The source explains that the new name will help the high school graduate "avoid the paparazzi" and allow her to "start fresh at college."
Suri ditched her father's last name and used her new name at her graduation ceremony from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, better known as the "Fame School," earlier this month. But that wasn't the first time.
Back in May, it was reported that the teen did not want to include her father's last name in her high school musical's playbill. She, instead, went by Suri Noelle in the playbill for her school's production of "Head Over Heels". She reportedly also used the new name in the playbill for her high school's performance of "The Addams Family: A New Musical", where she played the lead role of Morticia Addams, in December 2023.
Suri has been mainly raised by her mother following Katie's divorce from Tom in 2012. The "Dawson's Creek" alum, who has had sole custody of her daughter since splitting from the action movie star, previously praised Suri for her unique fashion choices, admitting that Suri occasionally borrows the basics from her closet.
As for Tom, the "Mission: Impossible" star remains estranged from his daughter and reportedly had "no part" in her life. He recently missed his daughter's graduation ceremony and was seen attending Taylor Swift's "Era Tour" concert in London instead a few days later.
