The apology, which took place during Bernhard's appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," has captivated audiences and ignited discussions about past Hollywood dynamics.
On the June 20 episode of the Bravo late-night show, host Andy Cohen asked Bernhard about her experience working with Fairchild on the 1990s sitcom. Fairchild played Marla, the bisexual girlfriend of Bernhard's character, Nancy Bartlett, in a groundbreaking three-episode arc.
To Cohen's astonishment, Bernhard confessed that she was "not nice" to Fairchild during the filming of the ABC comedy series, revealing it as one of her biggest regrets.
"I owe you an apology," Bernhard declared, speaking directly to the camera. "I adore you. And thank you for putting up with my snotty little attitude." Her admission included an acknowledgment of being consistently dismissive, attributing this to the overall unkind atmosphere on set.
When pressed by Cohen on what might have led to such behavior, Bernhard could only respond, "I don't know! Everybody was kind of not nice to her."
The conversation sparked curiosity among fans, with some speculating that as comedians, the cast may have been "snobby" towards Fairchild, a "non-comedian" actress in a comedy setting. Others suggested jealousy over Fairchild's beauty or discontent over casting choices as possible reasons.

Fairchild has previously spoken positively about her "Roseanne" role and her co-stars, describing the experience as "terrific" despite the challenges. Reflecting on her role in 2018, she mentioned how the character was "very breakthrough" for its time, sparking societal discussions and pushing boundaries on TV portrayals of LGBTQ+ relationships.
Though the original "Roseanne" show ended in 1995, it saw a resurgence with a reboot in 2018, where Bernhard reprised her role as Nancy. As "The Conners" continues into its sixth season, Fairchild hasn't ruled out a return, expressing her affection for the cast and her willingness to rejoin if given the opportunity.
