The 'Hot in Herre' hitmaker and the 'Foolish' singer are currently expecting their first child together, with her confirming the pregnancy in April, the same time she announced their engagement

AceShowbiz - Nelly took aside time to respond to a comment about the dynamic of his new family. The "Just a Dream" hitmaker checked a fan who said he and Ashanti aren't a "Haynes family" since he hasn't married her.

"But it's not the Haynes family. It's definitely the Haynes/Douglas family," read the comment. "I know y'all gone be mad but but be mad at him for not marrying her after all this time and giving her his last name."

The remark didn't go unnoticed by Nelly, who wasn't irritated by it. "ummm it's definitely the Haynes family...!!! Lol," he stressed.

Nelly and Ashanti are currently expecting their first child together. The "Foolish" singer confirmed her pregnancy in April, the same time she announced their engagement.

On April 17, the 43-year-old shared on Instagram a video of her getting ready for a performance. When her mom Tina Douglas asked her how much time she needs, she said, "Uh, I'm gonna need about nine months," leaving Tina in shock.

Meanwhile, when speaking to Essence, Ashanti divulged, "This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation." She added, "Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiance and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience."

Ashanti and Nelly first dated in the early 2000s. In September 2023, the rapper confirmed their reconciliation, saying in an interview, "Yeah, we cool again. I think it surprised both of us though. It wasn't anything that I don't think was planned."

Nelly believes spending so long apart from one another has been helpful with their reunion because the distance allowed them to "understand" each other and their relationship better. He explained, "I think we both were pretty much doing what we do, but sometimes being separate you understand one another more."
