The Merc with a Mouth (Reynolds) and the clawed mutant (Hugh Jackman) are back in 'Deadpool and Wolverine' and they're bringing their trademark violence and profanity with them.

AceShowbiz - The highly anticipated "Deadpool & Wolverine" has officially received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association's Classification and Rating Administration, marking a groundbreaking moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Slated for release on July 26, this film promises "strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references," making it Marvel's first venture into R-rated territory.

Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the irreverent anti-hero Deadpool, while Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine, a character he's inhabited for more than two decades. This meeting of the Merc with a Mouth and the clawed mutant is set to be just as bloody and violent as fans have hoped. Directed by Shawn Levy and featuring Morena Baccarin as Deadpool's fiancee Vanessa and Emma Corrin as the villain Cassandra Nova, the film is sure to be a wild ride.

Even Reynolds himself was surprised that Disney, known for its family-friendly content, allowed the R-rating. "I hope it doesn't sound condescending, I'm really proud of them for doing this," Reynolds told Variety. "I think it's a huge step for them. I mean, it adds a whole other color to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining forever."

Director Shawn Levy echoed Reynolds' sentiments, highlighting the necessity of maintaining the brutal tone characteristic of Deadpool and Wolverine. "We were clear from the get-go... If the three of us are going to do this, we've got to be truthful to the tone of a Deadpool movie," Levy explained. "And that means we're not softening the edges, we're going to be audacious and funny and edgy."

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also expressed enthusiasm about the film's daring approach, emphasizing that it's "f**king awesome" to have an R-rated entry in the MCU.

Additionally, the movie intriguingly involves the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a concept featured prominently in the Disney+ series "Loki". However, Levy reassured potential viewers that detailed knowledge of MCU history is not required. "This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research," he said.

Reynolds and Jackman previously worked together in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", and their longstanding friendship is evident both onscreen and off. Reynolds described the "secret sauce" of their friendship as similar to a marriage, "I am genuinely rooting for you, all the time. I want you to win."

"Deadpool & Wolverine" hits theaters on July 26. Fans can expect a no-holds-barred superhero spectacle that pushes the boundaries of what the MCU has offered so far.
