Making use of her Instagram account, Julia Quinn weighs in on the streaming giant's decision to incorporate a major change from the original books for season 3 storyline of the hit series

AceShowbiz - "Bridgerton" author Julia Quinn has broken her silence on controversies surrounding her work's adaptation on Netflix. Making use of her Instagram account, Quinn weighed in on the streaming giant's decision to incorporate a major change from the original books for season 3 storyline.

"Anyone who has seen an interview with me from the past four years knows that I am deeply committed to the Bridgerton world becoming more diverse and inclusive as the stories move from book to screen," Julia wrote on Tuesday, June 25. "But switching the gender of a major character is a huge change."

In season 3 finale, "Bridgerton" fans were left shocked when Michael Sterling (Masali Bazula) was introduced as Francesca Bridgerton's (Hannah Dodd) future love interest. It served a huge alteration from the book, which has Michael as Franchesca's love interest.

Quinn shared that "Bridgerton" showrunner Jess Brownell approached her about the idea. Admitting that she thought long and hard before making any decisions, the author revealed that she eventually decided to "trust Shondaland's vision for Bridgerton."

She added, "But I wanted to be sure that we could remain true to the spirit of the book and of the characters." The 54-year-old further explained, "Jess and I talked for a long time about it. More than once. I made it clear that it was extremely important to me that Francesca's abiding love for John be shown on screen."

Despite the alteration, Quinn believes that it won't make Francesca's story less gut-wrenching. "Honestly, it may pack even more of a punch, since John is getting a lot more time on the screen than he ever did on the page, and I think it's fair to say we've all fallen a little bit in love with him," the author penned. "I am grateful for your understanding and touched by your deep commitment to the characters of the Bridgerton world."

Concluding her post, she asked fans to trust Shondaland and its direction for "Bridgerton". "I ask that you grant me and the Shondaland team some faith as we move forward," she said.
