BET Awards 2024: Taraji P. Henson Surprises Crowd With Parody of Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us'

'The Color Purple' actress, who hosts the star-studded annual event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, belts out her own version of the famous Drake diss track.

AceShowbiz - Taraji P. Henson has offered an entertaining performance at the 2024 BET Awards with. When opening the star-studded award show, the actress of "The Color Purple" surprised other attendees with a parody of Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track.

The 53-year-old Golden Globe winner, who hosted the annual event that was held on Sunday, June 30 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, took the stage to belt out her own version of "Not Like Us". In the beginning of her performance, she rapped, "Taraji on the beat."

While Kendrick disses his rival Drizzy on the song, Taraji reflects on black culture. Treating the show's viewers to a fresh version of the track, the famous actress changed the lyrics to "it's about us." She also rapped, "It's not about you or me, it's about we."

For the special performance, Taraji channeled Kendrick, who is also famous as K.Dot. She went all out by dressing up as the "Euphoria" rapper at his "The Pop Out - Ken and Friends" concert in Los Angeles earlier in June.

The former "Empire" star opted to wear a white shirt under a bright red hoodie. She completed the look with a pair of long light blue denim pants and white sneakers. To match the top, she covered her hair with a red hat.

When Taraji delivered the track on the stage, many attendees could be seen grooving to the song. Some of them looked cheerful, flashing their smiles and showing their dancing skills. At one point, R&B icon Usher was caught on camera giggling as he watched Taraji perform.

Following the iconic performance, Taraji was showered with praise by many social media users. Making use of Instagram, one in particular gushed, "She killed it from the lyrics to dress code." Similarly, another chimed in, "I don't care what she saying @tarajiphenson can't do no wrong. She is my shero." A third stated, "The fact that she's rapping better than some of the rappers."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted, "Yall can be top tier critics or listen to the lyrics, she got a real point women in this industry deserve more recognition and better pay and better opportunities, it's been that way for far to long, she just thought it would be good to do it to the biggest song that was a staple in the cultureā€¦"
