After a tumultuous period marked by addiction and the dissolution of his longtime marriage, Dean McDermott has reached a major milestone - one year of sobriety.

AceShowbiz - Dean McDermott, best known for his television roles and as the former host of "Chopped Canada," celebrated a year of sobriety by expressing his gratitude towards his support system. On Instagram, the 57-year-old shared an image of a homemade poster commemorating his achievement, with sobriety chips and heartfelt messages from his loved ones proudly displayed.

"Last week was an incredible week of love, hugs, and recovery. Thank you to my Sponsor, my Sponsee Brothers, and everyone in the fellowship for celebrating my 1-year birthday," McDermott captioned the post. He also acknowledged the pivotal role of Harmony Place, the drug and alcohol rehab center he credits with saving his life. "A special thanks to @_harmonyplace J, D, and H for saving my life," he wrote.

McDermott has been open about how his battle with addiction heavily impacted his marriage to Tori Spelling, which ended in separation in June 2023 after nearly 18 years and five children together. In interviews, he has detailed how his excessive drinking and prescription drug use created a destructive lifestyle that isolated him from his family.

"Alcohol made me feel good enough until it got to a point where it didn't - I ended up in isolation," he shared. "It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos by myself with a beautiful family in the other room."

Despite the personal struggle and the toll it took on his family, McDermott's story is not one of defeat but of hope and resilience. Now a drug and alcohol counselor himself, he uses his story to encourage others facing similar struggles.

"If you're struggling with addiction, just surrender and ask for help. We're here waiting for you, to love you, until you love yourself. A beautiful life awaits you. Just reach out your hand," McDermott has urged his followers.

Both McDermott and Spelling have moved forward with their lives. McDermott has been in a new relationship with Lily Calo, who he praises as a supportive partner. Meanwhile, Spelling also reflects on their past with a sense of resolution, valuing the family moments they continue to share despite the separation.

As he celebrates this milestone, McDermott's message is clear: recovery is possible with the right support and a commitment to change. His journey underscores the importance of seeking help and the transformative possibilities that come with it.
