"Spring Breakers", written and directed by Harmony Korine, features Gomez alongside Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine as college friends who head to Florida for spring break. Despite their limited funds, they rob a restaurant for cash and are bailed out of jail by a drug dealer named Alien, played by James Franco. Reflecting on this unconventional project, Gomez shared, "It's a project [she's] proud of despite its uniqueness."
More than a decade after "Spring Breakers", Gomez continues to draw on the tastes and influences of those around her. Her current project, "Emilia Perez", showcases this perfectly. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the film features an ensemble cast including Zoe Saldana, Edgar Ramirez and Karla Sofia Gascon. "Working with Zoe [Saldana], Edgar [Ramirez] and Karla [Sofia Gascon], we often can't believe he is directing us," she remarked. "Even when he gave me directions about being sad, I was just so happy."
"Emilia Perez" follows the stories of three women who bond through their traumatic experiences within Mexico City's cartel. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and its female ensemble cast was collectively honored with the Best Actress award. Speaking on her experiences, Gomez noted, "Working with people like Zoe, Karla and Jacques is a privilege, and I believe hard work pays off."
Despite the unpredictable nature of the film industry, Gomez remains hopeful and passionate. "This is my true passion, and I hope for more opportunities in the future, but you never know with this crazy business," she concluded.
