As Eric Kripke's satirical superhero television series is entering its fourth season, the showrunner has a message to those criticizing the show for being 'woke.'

AceShowbiz - Prime Video's "The Boys" has built a reputation for its extreme gore, dark humor, and unflinching sociopolitical satire. As the series prepares for its fourth season, showrunner Eric Kripke remains undeterred by criticism, ready to explore unsettling parallels with real-world events.

"The Boys" adaptation, known for its brutal takedown of America's far right, has often been prescient in reflecting current events. According to Kripke, the upcoming season will feature Homelander, the main antagonist, on trial for publicly killing a protestor - an event which coincidentally aligns with former President Donald Trump's numerous convictions.

"It's happened now almost every season, and we write them sometimes close to two years before they air and again we'll find that the news is accurately reflecting whatever we're talking about," says Kripke.

The fourth season's first episode places Homelander on trial, raising questions about whether someone with such power can be brought to justice, and what it means for his supporters and detractors.

"Did I know it was going to come out during Trump's trial? Of course not. But we write what we're either scared of or pissed off about," Kripke explains.

Despite facing backlash for being labeled as "woke," Kripke is unapologetic. He emphasizes the importance of addressing ongoing social issues, such as over-policing in Black neighborhoods.

"Anyone who wants to call the show 'woke' or whatever, that's OK. Go watch something else," Kripke asserts, noting that some viewers even misinterpret Homelander as a hero. "The show's many things. Subtle isn't one of them. So if that's the message you're getting from it, I just throw up my hands."

As fans gear up for season 4, they can expect to see familiar faces, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Antony Starr, alongside new recruits such as Susan Heyward and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The storyline promises high stakes, with Butcher losing Becca's son and his position as The Boys' leader, and the team grappling with internal rifts while trying to prevent a global catastrophe.

The Boys' new season premieres on June 13, with episodes dropping weekly until the season finale on July 18.

Through biting commentary and fearless storytelling, "The Boys" continues to resonate with viewers, providing not just entertainment but a mirror reflecting some of society's most pressing issues.
