A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman (Joey King), her mother (Kidman) and her movie star boss (Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex and identity.

AceShowbiz - Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron reunite in "A Family Affair", years after they starred together in "The Paperboy". In the first trailer that was released on Wednesday, May 29, their characters embark on a steamy relationship.

Kidman plays Brooke Harwood, the mother of Joey King's Zara Ford who works as a personal assistant to self-absorbed Hollywood star Chris Cole (Efron). The dynamics between the three suddenly change as Zara discovers her widowed mother's secret romantic relationship with her boss.

"I went a little crazy. I'm allowed, right?" Brooke asks after apparently hooking up with Chris. Other scenes see the pair getting hot and heavy as they passionately kiss. "I've waited for you forever," Chris woos Brooke, borrowing a line from a movie.

The pair's romantic relationship spurs comedic moments, such as when Zara catches her mother in bed with her boss. Screaming in shock, Zara quickly turns around and bumps her head, causing her to lose consciousness.

According to the official synopsis, "A surprising romance kicks off comic consequences for a young woman (Joey King), her mother (Nicole Kidman) and her movie star boss (Zac Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity."

While Efron told PEOPLE filming the sex scenes with Kidman was "seamless, natural and fun," it wasn't that easy for King to get the perfect doorframe collision on film. "I did it about three times, and then took a moment to watch those takes back and decided I needed to keep trying until it was perfect," King told Tudum. "The hit on the head wasn't looking real enough to me."

"She did it seven times and every time was on the money and just cracked us up," director Richard Lagravenese chimed in. "We had to put foam wood in the door and on the frame, but she was game for it every time."

While King did the hard work, her co-stars were present for their amusement. "Nicole and Zac were there watching me even when they were finished with their part of the scene," she recalled. "They were filming me on their phones and cracking up."

"A Family Affair" also stars Kathy Bates as Brooke's mother and Lisa Koshy as Zara's friend. The romantic comedy will be released on streaming service Netflix on June 28.
