Despite being the creator of iconic franchises like 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner', the director expresses disappointment over not being involved in their sequels.

AceShowbiz - Ridley Scott, the director behind the groundbreaking films "Alien" and "Blade Runner", recently revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that he was not asked to direct the sequels to either franchise. The news came as a surprise to many, given Scott's significant contributions to the original films.

Scott attributed his absence from the sequels to his early status as an emerging filmmaker. "I was slow out the starting gate," he said. "I mean, I should have done the sequels to 'Alien' and to 'Blade Runner.' You change over the years."

At the time, Scott explained, he was not particularly interested in directing sequels so early in his career. Instead, James Cameron helmed the 1986 sequel to "Alien", titled "Aliens", while Denis Villeneuve took over the reins for "Blade Runner 2049" in 2017.

Scott expressed regret over his decision to not direct "Blade Runner 2049", stating that he "should have done 'Blade Runner 2.' " However, he commended Villeneuve for doing "a good job" with the film.

Despite his initial exclusion from the sequels, Scott has remained involved with both franchises in other capacities. He is executive producing the upcoming Amazon Prime series "Blade Runner 2099" and producing "Alien: Romulus," a film set between the events of "Alien" and "Aliens".

The director's experience with sequels differed significantly with his 2000 blockbuster "Gladiator". Scott is behind the camera for the long-awaited sequel, "Gladiator II", set to release in theaters on November 22.

Scott's perspective on sequels serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics that often govern decision-making in the film industry, where both creative and business factors play a role.
