More 'The Walking Dead' Characters Make Surprise Appearance in 'Fear' Crossover

Talking about the characters' brief appearance on 'Fear the Walking Dead', new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberd say in a new interview that they are both 'thrilled' and excited.

AceShowbiz - It has been long-known that "The Walking Dead" alum Lennie James will be transitioning to the AMC show's spin-off "Fear the Walking Dead". However, fans were surprised that more characters from the mothership series made a brief appearance in "Fear the Walking Dead" season 4 premiere, which also served as the last part of the zombie shows' two-part crossover.

[SPOILER ALERT!] "What's Your Story", which aired on Sunday, April 15 right after "The Walking Dead" season 8 finale, saw Lennie's Morgan walking, running and driving from Virginia to Texas, the new setting and location of the spin-off. Upon his arrival, he met with new friends, John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and Althea (Maggie Grace). In addition to making a new alliance, Morgan encountered new foes, Leland and his crew.

Much to everyone's surprise, it appeared that Morgan was not the only character from "The Walking Dead" featured in the crossover. Andrew Lincoln's Rick, Melissa McBride's Carol and Tom Payne's Jesus appeared in the beginning of the episode. They visited Morgan at the Heaps, trying to get him back with them.

Prior to the season 4 premiere, "The Walking Dead" teased the surprised appearance on its official Twitter account. "Wait, did we say Morgan's the only character from #TheWalkingDead crossing over to #FearTWD? Because he's not," the account wrote in the caption alongside an art poster of the crossover.

Talking about Rick, Carol and Jesus' brief appearance on "Fear the Walking Dead", new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberd, who replaced Dave Erickson, said to Entertainment Weekly that they were both "thrilled" and excited. "I don't think we ever dreamed that we would get to be writing for Rick, for Carol, and for Jesus. So it was kind of a very exciting moment when we realized all the pieces were lining up," Andrew explained.

"The other exciting thing for us in having those moments with Rick, Jesus, and Carol is that these are three people who Morgan has spent a long, long time being close to," Ian added. "These are people that are very important in his life. The things that they say to him when they visited in the Heaps are very much things that emotional Morgan is going to carry with him throughout the season."

"Fear the Walking Dead" season 4 airs on Sundays at 9 P.M. on AMC.
