The actress, who won Tony's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, passed away on Monday, October 6 following an extended illness.

AceShowbiz - Marian Seldes, the actress who won her first Tony Award in 1967 for her performance in "A Delicate Balance", died peacefully in her home on Monday, October 6 after an extended illness. She was 86. Her brother, Timothy Seldes, announced the sad news.

"It is with deep sadness that I share the news that my dear sister Marian Seldes has died," Timothy said in a statement, "She was an extraordinary woman whose great love of the theater, teaching and acting was surpassed only by her deep love for her family."

Marian, who was born on August 23, 1928 in New York City, started her career at Broadway in 1948 in a production of "Medea". The Broadway favorite star was nominated for Tony Awards for five times. After winning her first Tony Award for "A Delicate Balance", she won her second Tony Award for lifetime achievement in 2010.

Marian was a teacher of drama faculty at The Juilliard School from 1967 to 1991. Her students included Kevin Kline, Laura Linney, William Hurt, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Reeve, Kevin Spacey, Patti LuPone, Stephen Henderson, Christine Baranski, Viola Davis and Robin Williams.

There will be no funeral or memorial service for Marian, in accordance with her wishes. Donations may be made to the Marian Seldes Drama Scholarship at The Juilliard School.
