Artist of the Week: Madina Lake

Week 19 of 2009

Madina Lake

will come out with a new studio album "" Tuesday, May 5. In putting final touch for the record, the band worked with acclaimed producer David Bendeth, who had produced and 's albums.

Recalling the days when they were in studio with David, bass guitarist Matthew Leone noted the producer is "a drill sergeant." He wrote on their official website, "We just thought we'd come in, and record them. But when we played them for him that first time, he just ripped us apart. He completely deconstructed us, and it hurt bad. But the pain was well worth it."

In an exclusive interview with AceShowbiz, the band fronted by vocalist Nathan Leone shared further on what the new album is dealing with. They opened up, "'Attics' is a much more psychological concept. Some people think that things like money, fame or having more friends than the next guy will bring you happiness and it won't."

"Happiness, in our opinion, comes from within in and is more about how you think and/or perceive things than any material things," they continued explaining. "The story line for 'Attics' expands well beyond the town of ML and shows the unraveling of the town's consciousness in light of the bigger world."

Out of twelve songs from the album, they picked up "Never Take Us Alive" as the album's first single and had released it for digital purchase in February. In addition, they had debuted a music video directed by Shane Drake for the song in March.

As for the second single to be dropped in U.K., this band chose "Let's Get Out of Here" which tells "about being stuck in a routine every day and getting sick of it and all the people around you and escaping to a psychological paradise." They said, "I feel like it's a good representation of the whole record and it's a song that doesn't sound like anything I've heard before which is always appealing to me."

However, they still remain mum about which song to be released as the second single in America. "Entirely different plan in the US," so they claimed.

In the meantime, the alternative rock band are hitting the road for a series of live concerts in Europe and America. Those who want to obtain more info about their upcoming shows can visit their MySpace, where two of their new singles, "Never Take Us Alive" and "Never Walk Alone", are also available for free stream.

When their tour is wrapped up at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 26, they will film a music video for "Let's Get Out of Here" in England. After that, they will be performing for 2009 Warped Tour alongside , LIGHTS and on June 23 until August 23.

MADINA LAKE BIO

A Post-hardcore/alternative rock band, Madina Lake were formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2005. Before joining the band, vocalist Nathan Leone and bass guitarist Matthew Leone were in a band known as The Blank Theory. The other members, guitarist Mateo Camargo and drummer Dan Torelli, meanwhile were in another band called Reforma. Because they were unhappy with the situation in The Blank Theory and Reforma, the four of them, who were friends to each other, decided to walk out. They then created their own band, Madina Lake. » more
