In the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains, a mysterious and ancient fortress holds a dark secret that predates history itself. Directed by Niels Arden Oplev and written by Ehren Kruger, this atmospheric thriller follows a disparate group of soldiers during World War II who discover the Keep is far more than a simple stronghold. As a German detachment, led by the determined Jürgen Prochnow, occupies the structure, they awaken a malevolent force that begins to slaughter them one by one. Desperate for answers, they enlist a Jewish historian, played by Ian McKellen, and his daughter, portrayed by Alberta Watson, who possess cryptic knowledge of the Keep’s lore. Their arrival coincides with that of a mysterious stranger, Scott Glenn, who seems to have a profound and personal connection to the evil within the walls. As the body count rises, alliances fracture and ancient prophecies unfold, forcing everyone to confront a supernatural enemy that feeds on fear and violence. Blending wartime tension with gothic horror, the film creates a chilling atmosphere where the true battle is not between armies, but against an ageless darkness that threatens to consume them all.
