Life in the Central Park Zoo is a pampered paradise for a tight-knit group of animal friends, including Alex the charismatic lion Ben Stiller, Marty the restless zebra Chris Rock, Melman the hypochondriac giraffe David Schwimmer, and Gloria the sensible hippo Jada Pinkett Smith. Marty’s longing for the wild, however, sparks a chain of events that catapults the foursome out of their comfortable Manhattan existence and onto a ship bound for a Kenyan wildlife preserve. A chaotic penguin-led mutiny strands their crates on the shores of the mysterious island of Madagascar, thrusting the bewildered city animals into a lush, untamed jungle. This vibrant animated adventure from directors Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath follows the quartet as they confront their greatest challenge: surviving in a world where the rules of nature are a far cry from their scheduled feedings. For Alex, a predator who has never hunted, the clash between his civilized instincts and his primal hunger creates a hilarious and heartfelt crisis that tests the very foundations of their friendship.
