The 'Price is Right' host, who's been at the helm for 17 years, has some hilarious and eye-opening stories of the not-so-sober players who make the show a must-watch.

AceShowbiz - If you've ever wondered how some contestants on "The Price is Right" maintain such high energy levels, it turns out that a bit of "liquid courage" or recreational substances might help. Drew Carey, who has been hosting the beloved game show since 2007, shed some light on the antics of his amusing guests.

Carey revealed in a "TV Insider" interview that it's "not unusual" for contestants to be under the influence before taking the stage. "They'll have a [marijuana] gummy or I'll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual," he said. Among the more memorable contestants was a "skateboarding rabbi" who was tripping on mushrooms.

"There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy," Carey recalled. This character, later identified as Josh Androsky, admitted that he was not only on mushrooms, but also very drunk during his appearance.

Androsky didn't keep his escapade under wraps. He uploaded the footage to YouTube with the self-effacing caption: "Hi. I'm an idiot and I took mushrooms, got drunk, then went on 'The Price Is Right' and lied to Drew Carey's melting face. (HE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN NICER)."

Despite dealing with an array of zany characters, Carey expresses that these contestants are his "favorite part of the show." He notes, "They're normal people that live normal lives... Every religion. It's a cross-section of America."

Reflecting on the diverse array of middle and working-class Americans he encounters, Carey emphasizes, "Regular people are more interesting than celebrities. Honestly. They've all had their own problems to overcome and their own demons."
