The former 'Pretty Little Liars' star reveals her experience with the painful condition, which occurs when the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, and offers support to others.

AceShowbiz - On June 25, actress Janel Parrish, 35, shared her recent diagnosis and surgery for endometriosis in a candid Instagram post. Endometriosis occurs when the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, affecting organs like the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvis.

Parrish described months of excruciating pain before receiving her diagnosis. She underwent surgery to remove cysts and scar tissue resulting from the disease. She expressed empathy towards other women with endometriosis, noting the lack of information and lack of a cure.

"To my endo sisters, there is so little information out there about this and there is no cure. It is easy for us to feel helpless, scared and alone," Parrish wrote. "Seeing other women posting about their experiences made ME feel stronger. I hope this helps to keep the conversation about Endo open and flowing, so we can raise awareness and lift each other up."

Parrish also shared that her husband, Chris Long, and her dogs provided her with support during her recovery. She urged others to seek medical attention if experiencing similar symptoms.

Endometriosis is a common condition, affecting up to 10% of women. However, it is often missed, and women in the U.S. can experience an average of 10 years of suffering before receiving proper diagnosis and treatment.

Other celebrities who have spoken out about their endometriosis include Whoopi Goldberg, Bindi Irwin, Lena Dunham, Halsey, Julianne Hough, Amy Schumer and Padma Lakshmi.
