The actor also discusses the enduring impact of 'Footloose' ahead of the film's 40th anniversary, while celebrating the premiere of his new 'Beverly Hills Cop' role.

AceShowbiz - Kevin Bacon, now 65, recently opened up about his absence from the Oscars since 1984. While attending the premiere of "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" in Los Angeles, he expressed surprise that it had been four decades since he had graced Hollywood's biggest night.

In 1984, Bacon's star was on the rise due to his iconic role in 'Footloose.' He presented the award for Best Sound Effects Editing that year alongside Daryl Hannah. In 'Footloose,' Bacon played Ren McCormack, a teenager who defied a conservative town's ban on dancing.

Speaking of 'Footloose", Bacon acknowledged its lasting legacy. "It did change my life," he stated. "I was working and I knew I'd be an actor for the long haul, but I thought a character actor, but this took over people's psyche for that moment and my life switched." Despite several other notable performances, 'Footloose' remains the film that fans most often approach him about.

Coincidentally, Bacon's latest project, "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F", also debuted in 1984. The actor expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Eddie Murphy-led franchise, which he considers the "greatest fish out of water franchise." He had minimal interaction with Murphy before this role, contributing to his excitement about collaborating with him.

"Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" follows Axel Foley and his estranged daughter as they team up to solve a California case. The film premieres on Netflix on July 3rd.
