After saying that she would love to be called by her birth name more often, the Academy Award-winning actress sets the record straight on how she would like to be addressed.

AceShowbiz - Emma Stone, the star of films like "Easy A" and "Poor Things", has addressed the ongoing confusion surrounding her name. In recent interviews, she has expressed her willingness to go by either Emma or her birth name, Emily.

"I'm fine either way," Stone said on NBC's "Today" show. "My real name is Emily, though."

Stone explained that she adopted the stage name Emma at the beginning of her acting career because another actress was already using the name Emily Stone at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

"It's sort of like when you register a business, and you can't have the same name as someone else," she said.

Despite using Emma professionally, Stone has always introduced herself as Emily personally. She noted that people she works with often call her by her birth name once they get to know her.

"I've been saying Emily my whole life," Stone said. "So you can call me whatever you want."

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in April, Stone had expressed her desire to be called Emily more often. "I would like to be Emily," she said. "Growing up, I was super blonde, and I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice. But now I am Emma."

Stone's revelation comes after she was referred to as Emily by her birth name at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The actress smiled and exclaimed, "That's my name!"

Ultimately, Stone emphasized that she is comfortable with either name and encouraged people to address her as they prefer.
