Following reports that a sequel to 2022's 'Top Gun: Maverick' is in development, the 'Anyone But You' star says, 'There is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future.'

AceShowbiz - Glen Powell is getting his license ready to fly again. Following reports that "Top Gun" 3 is in the works, he has seemingly confirmed the news with the actor teasing his return for the follow-up to "Top Gun Maverick".

At the Sundance Film Festival for his new film "Hit Man", the "Scream Queens" alum stopped by the Variety Studio presented by Audible, during which he shared people's reaction to the news about a third "Top Gun" movie. He revealed that he started getting a lot of text messages inquiring about the project. "People looked at me like I knew what was going on," he said.

While claiming that the project is shrouded in secrecy, at least to him, the 35-year-old hunk teased, "There is going to be some fun stuff being announced soon...but it was confidential to me." He added, "I talk to [Joseph] Kosinski, [Tom] Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer] all the time."

Powell went on hinting on his confidence that he will reprise his role as Lieutenant Jake "Hangman" Seresin in the supposed threequel, saying, "There is stuff happening and it sounds very exciting. I don't know when I'll be going back...I'm sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future."

Powell stars alongside Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and many others in the 2022 blockbuster picture. It went on to gross $1.496 billion worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2022 and the highest-grossing of Cruise's career.

Earlier this month, news broke that Paramount is developing the sequel, with Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote "Top Gun: Maverick", being rumored to be penning a draft script for the upcoming new installment.

It is believed that producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison will return to the franchise, and "Maverick" director Joe Kosinski could return to helm or produce the next motion picture. Cruise and Teller are also expected to return for the threequel.
