AceShowbiz - The competition in season 20 of "American Idol" is getting heated. In a new episode of the long-running singing competition show, the remaining singers were sent into the Showstopper round and only 24 of them made it to the next round.

Kicking off the night was Leah Marlene, who opted to perform "She's a Self Made Man" by Larkin Poe. Judge Katy Perry called her a guitar queen, but hoped she would be more of a vocal queen. Despite that, Leah became the first contestant in the Top 24.

Jay then hit the stage to sing "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri. Katy felt Jay was almost a perfect singer, but perfection didn't win over feeling. "I'm sorry to tell you your 'Idol' journey is ending….at some point in the future, but not tonight," she said to make things intense. Jay joined Leah in the Top 24.

Singing "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele was Nicolina. The performance was solid enough to send Nicolina to the next round. Emyrson Flora followed it up with a performance of "Honey" by Kehlani, while Ryleigh Madison chose to sing "Blue" by LeAnn Rimes. Emyrson advanced to the Top 24, while Ryleigh was eliminated.

Katyrah Love sang "Sweet Thing" by Rufus & Chaka Khan for her showstopper. Luke loved her "truly infectious personality," and she was surprisingly sent to the next round. As for Fritz Hager, he opted to sing an original song called "Inconsequential Love". He earned a place in the Top 24.

Next up was Ava Maybee, who sang "Falling" by Harry Styles, and Katy dubbed it her "best performance." Meanwhile, Cameron Whitcomb performed "It Ain't Me Babe" by Bob Dylan. Cameron made it to the Top 24.

When it was time for Ava to learn her fate, she was joined by Yoli Mayor who performed "Human" by rum.gold. Ava advanced, while Yoli was sent home alongside Douglas Mills Jr., Sam Moss and Betty Maxwell.

After singing "Honesty" by Pink Sweat$, Sir Blake moved to the next round. Also moving into the Top 24 were Elli Rowe and Mike Parker.

Tristen Gresstt hoped his performance of "Come Together" by The Beatles would earn him a spot in the Top 24. Thankfully, the judges thought he deserved it.

In the second hour of the show, Christian Guardino kicked it off with a performance of "Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leon. Later, Dontrell Briggs hit the stage to sing Lionel Richie's "Hello". Unfortunately, Dontrell was eliminated while Christian stayed in the competition.

Country singer Noah Thompson chose to go outside his comfort zone by singing Rihanna's "Stay". He nailed it, and he sailed into the Top 24. Cadence Baker joined Noah in the Top 24 after performing "The Story" by Brandi Carlile. Meanwhile, Kelsie Dolin sang "Before You Go" by Lewis Capaldi. Unfortunately, her journey ended that night. Huntergirl later sang "Girl Goin' Nowhere" by Ashley McBryde and she advanced to the next round.

Also advancing to the Top 24 were Sage and Danielle, though Danielle faced criticism from Katy. Jordan Chase was eliminated after singing "Cold" by Chris Stapleton. Meanwhile, Kenedi made it to the Top 24 after performing "Talking to the Moon" by Bruno Mars.

Scarlet, who sang "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette, advanced to the next round. She was joined in the Top 24 by Lady K, who opted to perform "I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James.

Performing last that night were Dakota Hayden and Dan Marshall. To get the final spot in the Top 24, Dan sang "Hard Workin' Man" by Brooks & Dunn, while Dakota performed "Pretty Heart" by Parker McCollum. Dan was revealed to be the one going to the Top 24.
