AceShowbiz - Lilly Wachowski made her first public appearance since coming out as transgender when she attended the GLAAD Media Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Saturday, April 2. The 48-year-old director looked confident when she hit the red carpet and posed for photographers.

She gave a glimpse of her cleavage as she rocked a floor-length cutout black gown which she teamed with a pair of strappy stilettos. The "Matrix" trilogy director wore minimal makeup while sporting red lips and shoulder-length curly hair.

Lilly won the Outstanding Drama Series for her Netflix series "Sense8". During her acceptance speech, Lilly thanked the show's crew and cast while explaining the importance of love for LGBT community. "Love is a crucial thing for transgender people. It's a tether," she said at one point during her speech.

Lilly, formerly known as Andy, came out as transgender on March 8. Her sister, Lana, also came out as transgender in July 2012. While announcing her transformation, Lilly said that being transgender was not easy, but she's lucky because her family was supportive.

"We live in a majority-enforced gender binary world. This means when you're transgender you have to face the hard reality of living the rest of your life in a world that is openly hostile to you," she said in a statement. "I am one of the lucky ones. Having the support of my family and the means to afford doctors and therapists has given me the chance to actually survive this process."
