Following objectifying comments about Caitlyn Jenner's physical transformation, the 'Orange Is the New Black' actress expresses her gratitude for having her transition 'in private.'

AceShowbiz - Laverne Cox posed as the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom, for the cover of June 19 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine in honor of Pride Month. The "Orange Is the New Black" actress talked about Caitlyn Jenner's transition and said that she was grateful for having private gender transition.

Laverne told the magazine that she was distressed by the subject of surgery when it came to transgender folks. "This is why I'm so grateful that I had the luxury of transitioning in private," said the actress. "Because when you transition in the public eye, the transition becomes the story. I'm always disturbed when I see conversations about trans people that focus on surgery."

However, the 31-year-old actress appreciated Caitlyn's decision to undergo her gender transition in the public eye. She believed that it was a big leap for the LGBT community. "But I believe Caitlyn will transcend this moment," she continued.

Before Caitlyn's debut on Vanity Fair's cover, Laverne had been fighting so hard to change the image of transgender through her career achievements. She wanted to make people think about transgender as the same human being, so that they would give equal treatment to transgender folks. "I just wonder, am I allowed to be a human being?" the LGBT advocate pondered.

Following Caitlyn's debut, the "Grandma" actress wrote on Tumblr to express her gratitude for the love and support the 65-year-old reality TV star received. She also reminded people not to merely focus on Caitlyn's physical trasnformation. "Caitlyn looks amazing and is beautiful but what I think is most beautiful about her is her heart and soul," Laverne said.
