AceShowbiz - Sophia Bush has come clean about her sexuality. When confirming her romance with U.S. Women's National Team soccer player Ashlyn Harris, the former "One Tree Hill" star declared that she now identifies as queer and she "feels pretty great" about it.
"I think I've always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum," the 41-year-old penned in a powerful essay published by Glamour on Thursday, April 25. "Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can't say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great."
Sophia noted that she's "experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community" both as an ally and member. She added, "I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I'm deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we're seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history."
"There were more than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills proposed in state legislatures in 2023," the actress continued. "So for that reason I want to give the act of coming out the respect and honor it deserves."
Sophia went on to explain that coming out makes her feel relieved. "I finally feel like I can breathe. I don't think I can explain how profound that is," she shared. "I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long. I hadn't realized how heavy it was until I finally just put it down."
Sophia and Ashlyn's dating rumors surface just two months after Sophia filed for divorce from her husband Grant Hughes after only 13 months of marriage. She was previously married to her former "One Tree Hill" co-star Chad Michael Murray which only lasted for five months.
As for Ashlyn, she married fellow soccer pro Ali Krieger in 2019 after dating since 2010. They adopted a daughter, Sloane Phillips Krieger-Harris, in 2021 and a son, Ocean Maeve Krieger-Harris, in 2022. On September 19 of this year, Ashlyn filed for divorce from his wife.
