Sean Penn Drops Out of 'Three Stooges' and 'Cartel'

Quoting In Touch's insider of the matter, the gossip site claimed that Johnny could be up for the role of Moe and Sean is most likely be given the Larry character, adding further that the filmmaker brothers haven't got a clue of whom to play Curly. "They want Johnny to play Moe and Sean Penn will be Larry - they're still looking to cast Curly," the quotation from the insider read.

The modern incarnation of comedy act "" is indeed going to be picked up for big screen production. On Monday, November 3, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures announced that the studio have Bobby and Peter Farrelly, who spent five years trying to make the Stooges movie at Warner Bros., attached to the revived project as the directors.

Talking to Variety about the new "Stooges", Peter insisted that the movie won't be a biopic. "It's not a biopic. It takes place in present day, and they look, dress and sound exactly like the Stooges," he said. "When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest. Bobby and I haven't done a real physical comedy in a while, and it's the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor."

Back to the market after being dumped by Warner Bros. Pictures, it delightfully did not take long for "" to find another home. Variety revealed that the picture has safely been placed under First Look Studios following the deal reached between the company and the film's rights holder C3 Entertainment.

Amidst this move, however, it is reported that Farrelly brothers who have been tapped to both write and direct are no longer attached to the flick. Though so, their script for the movie will likely still be used as C3 honcho Earl Benjamin said he loves the contemporized screenplay they penned with Mike Ceronne for Warner.
