Dakota Fanning Gets a Dad in 'The Runaways'
July 08, 2009 04:07:22"The Runaways" has been busy with its filming in Los Angeles, but casting news for the biopic keeps streaming in. The Hollywood Reporter has come up with the story that Taylor Kitsch's on-screen father in NBC drama series "Friday Night Lights", Brett Cullen, will be sharing screen with one of the leading actresses, Dakota Fanning.
The 52-year-old has been tapped to carry out the alcoholic father of The Runaways' member, Cherie Currie which will be starred by Fanning. The man behind Barton Blaze character in "Ghost Rider" is expected to draw his character's traits from the story of Currie's father, whom the band's lead vocalist documented in her addiction memoir "Neon Angel".

On Wednesday, July 1, the two leading actresses were spotted jumping on a car and kicking over a garbage can on the set during the shooting.
Both of the starlets were dressed in the full '80s gear. Black-haired Stewart was seen sporting leather pants and her co-star Fanning was captured wearing platform boots. This is the first time Fanning was spotted as Currie. The set photos posted below are outed by Just Jared and were taken from the movie's Los Angeles set Wednesday, July 1.

Latino Review broke the news of Alia Shawkat's casting, whereas Life & Style came out with the story that Tatum O'Neal has been tapped to star in the biopic movie.
Shawkat who plays acerbic teenager Maeby Funke in FOX's comedy series "Arrested Development" reportedly will be playing a character named Robin. Latino Review describes Robin as an 18-year-old tall and slender bass player who is the oldest and most feminine of the band, hinting further that the character may have been created in essence of the band's original Micki Steele.

Since Stewart still has commitments with two "Twilight" sequels, including "New Moon", it is said that the production of "Runaways" which is aimed for 2009 start will work a schedule around them. Beside taking the role of Jett, THR also reported that the "Into the Wild" actress will reprise her role as Bella in "New Moon", which is expected to shoot sometime in first-quarter 2009.

Too bad like many talented artists, they are only getting recognized many years later. But better late than never. I'm so glad Kristen Stewert is in it. I think she can play a really cool rocker chick. Can't wait for the movie!

posted by lucky on Aug 29, 2009Okay, well, this is one of my favorite bands, however, I would think Dakota Fanning is WAYY to young to be a good Cheri Currie, though Cheri was about 16 or 17 when the band started, and Dakota is only 15. I'm also not really impressed with their selection for Lita Ford.. And I don't see anyone cast for Jackie Fox.

posted by unknown on Sep 06, 2009i have been a runaways fan since i was born my moms been playing them and j jett since i can remember. i think doing a movie about them is an excellent idea. also for all of you who are saying how horrible kristens hair is for this movie, your dumb. thats what joan looks like its her signature hair cut, and she looks alot like joan so back the fuck off hair grows back. and dekota as cherie is a great match as well shes young but so was cherie when she hit it big.

As for this movie I think that every actress has that one movie they are terrific in. Maybe this movie will the that for K Stewart. Who knows.
