Moving on from his villainous role in "", will tackle on a historical figure in "". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actor will step into the shoes of King Richard who is more commonly known as Richard the Lionheart due to his exploits during the Third Crusade.

Landing the role means he will be sharing screen with Academy Award-winning actor , who headlines the project as the titular character. He will also join other cast ensemble that include as Maid Marion and as Sir Godfrey. The actor who is also credited as director is expected to shoot for his part after wrapping up on "".

An interesting tidbit concerning "" script and its potential rewriting work has been brought to the attention by Showbiz 411. Through the newly launched site, former Fox journalist Roger Friedman claimed that another rewriting has been done for the script of the Ridley Scott-directed action drama.

On the yet-to-be-proven story, Friedman made note that "Shakespeare in Love" screenwriter Tom Stoppard has been hired to tackle the job. "I'm told that Tom Stoppard, the genius playwright (Rock N Roll, Coast of Utopia, etc) and actual screenwriter of 'Shakespeare in Love' among other films, has been reworking Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood' from top to bottom," so his report read.

Universal Pictures have released the first photo from "". Posted at USA Today, the picture provides the first look at as the titular character. In the freshly-outed image, the Academy Award-winning actor for "Gladiator" is seen sporting a Caesar haircut. He has also shed the "" and "" weight, exhibiting a slimmed-down physique.

Crowe's photo as the prince of thieves also displays the character's new look. Of the new look, producer Brian Grazer explained, "He doesn't have the old Robin Hood tights. He's got armor. He's very medieval. He looks, if anything, more like he did in Gladiator than anything we're used to seeing with Robin Hood."

While not much has been uncovered of Ridley Scott's "", has given a tiny bit of light about his Sir Godfrey character in the project. Talking to Empire Online at the 2009 Jameson Empire Awards, the "" actor described his villainous character as "a bit of a bastard".

"I play King John's right-hand man who is a bit of a bastard - there's lot of horse riding, lots of threatening people with enormous swords," Strong said of Sir Godfrey. He also explained his role's transition from Guy of Gisborne to Godfrey, saying "A year ago I was playing the Guy of Gisborne character but the story isn't the Robin Hood story. Although all the characters are all involved, it's a different narrative."

A revisionist take on the Robin Hood tale, "Nottingham", has been scraped and is projected toward "". Director Ridley Scott fessed up about the matter to MTV News, saying "I am in a constant stage of development. I am liable to do 'Gucci.' I am liable to do a thing called ',' and I am doing 'Robin Hood' next... Oh yes, I think we are just going to call it 'Robin Hood'."

Describing his Robin Hood as "a bowman in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion", Scott then clarified on 's double role in "Nottingham". "[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, 'I don't really know what it does for it, but it's alright'," he stated. "It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end."

Reports claimed that there are a number of reasons posted by Universal Pictures regarding the production delay. In the first place, it is said that the studio expressed their concern over the possible SAG strike. Then, they want the shooting location, the forest, to be green and last but not least, Universal proposed that there is problem with the script written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris which has been rewritten by Brian Helgeland.

Following its victorious attempt to secure to rights to hotly-pursued spec script of "Nottingham" written by "Sleeper Cell" scribes Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, Universal Pictures has reportedly picked up to topline the project, which it will develop alongside Imagine Entertainment.

With the inclusion, Crowe therefore once again finds himself work under Imagine after crime drama "" which is set to open this year on November 2. Prior to this Ridley Scott-directed flick, the Oscar-winning actor played the title character in another Imagine's production "" back in 2005.
