'Kung Fu Panda' Sequel Eyed by DreamWorks

Grossing $60.2 million on its opening weekend, "" has become DreamWorks Animation's biggest opening for a non-sequel film and the third-largest opening weekend overall for a DreamWorks animated film. With that in mind and the follow-up story being developed, it is no wonder that DreamWorks won't miss a chance on getting the right for its sequel.

Speaking to the press at a portions screening of "", Jeffrey Katzenberg, the Chief Executive of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., revealed that the studio have been in negotiation for "Kung Fu Panda 2". To Reuters in particular, he said, "We've started conversations about it, and I think in the next 30 or 60 days, we'll be able to talk completely about that."

Delivering a kung fu movie like none before, DreamWorks' latest animation "" has wowed moviegoers as well as box office watchers with its major success of raking in $161.7 million from the U.S. market only. It is no wonder that early talks about the sequel have surfaced. But, is it true that "Kung Fu Panda, the Sequel" is on the way?

It seems that the news may hold some truth. In its latest post, TAG Blog has pointed out that the work on the sequel of the big fat kung fu enthusiast chosen to be the one to save his village from evil kung fu master has begun. "A story crew has started early work in Kung Fu Panda, the Sequel," the blog entry read, "even while animators are hand-drawing new material for the DVD of Kung Fu Panda, the original."

Kung Fu Panda Kicked Zohan's Butt at the Box Office

Coming out in theaters on the same weekend on June 6, the two potentially high-grossing summer movies, "" and "", seek to beat the other at the weekend box office and like in every other competition, there will always be a winner. In this case, the big lazy panda aspiring to be kung fu legend outgunned the Mossad agent turned hairstylist by landing atop box office chart and proved critics wrong securing a strong lead against "Zohan".

Though most box office watchers predicted that "Panda" and "Zohan" will have a tight race on the ticket sales, the animation comedy offered a big surprise when it debuted with $60.2 million, over $20 million more than the "Zohan" opening of $38.5 million. The DreamWorks Animation's tidbit featuring the voices of and has shown its solid run since Friday, June 6, by grossing $20.3 million, while "Zohan" earned nearly $15 million.

'Kung Fu Panda', Worth the Wait?

Po has a big dream, a dream of becoming a kung fu hero. However, he is big, fat and extremely clumsy and to make matter worse, he is the laziest animal on the planet. No wonder that nobody in his entire village ever believes in his capability of making his dream a reality. Often being the object of ridicule, he tries to prove himself in a competition looking for the ultimate Dragon Warrior. Amazingly, he ends up with the title and a whole lot more as he now has to prepare himself to live up to the legendary role and save his town from the great villain lurking from a distance.

Promising to present a 'zero to hero' tale of a noodle serving panda who gets once in a lifetime chance of becoming a kung-fu legend, the animation comedy film "" is about to give movie-lovers opportunity to laugh out loud and to collect massive success at the box office. With the Academy Award-nominated director Mark Osborne serving as its co-helmer and a slew of A-list actors, including , , , and filling up the characters' voices, it seems that those are not hard to achieve. At least, most of the movie critics believe so.

'Kung Fu Panda' Soaring at L.A. Premiere

On Sunday morning, June 1, a big enthusiastic but clumsy panda was floating above the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The enormous helium figure was displayed there to mark the L.A. premiere of the highly anticipated animation comedy "" and also to welcome the Hollywood stars attending the special screening event.

Held nearly three weeks after its world premiere at the 61st Cannes Film Festival back on May 15, the L.A. premiere which covered a block of Hollywood Boulevard saw a unique performance from and 's who sang the film's rendition of "Kung Fu Fighting" in front of the theater before the screening takes place. The event also featured various activities that are entitled using the characters' names, including "Tigress' dance class" and "Viper's Chinese charms".

Making the celebration of the 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival even merrier, "" rolled down its red carpet on the festival's second day to mark the world premiere of the upcoming comedy animated movie. Held at Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes on May 15, the red carpet event attracted many stars as well as the titular panda himself, which is represented by a man wearing Po's suit.

Attending the special celebration were some of the film's stars, , , and the very pregnant . The latter actress came to the event wearing a low-cut forest green flowing dress and accompanied by her partner . Humorous Second Trailer of 'Kung Fu Panda' Arrives

What happen when you put a big fat lazy panda voiced by the comical in an animated Kung Fu movie? You'll get a hilarious DreamWorks' latest film with the name of "" and that is exactly what the second trailer wants to put across. Though relatively short with less than two minutes of running time, the trailer still manages to bring chuckles, if better laughters in.

Introducing the kung fu masters made legend by their ancient style of kung fu, the trailer kicks off with a subtle description made by narrator for typical classic martial art movies. However, the collected voice of the narrator quickly turns temperamental when the last character he is preluding doesn't strike a glorious pose like the others, even worse he even has yet to show his face on screen. The slacker turns up to be Panda, the last creature others think of being the "Chosen One".

As the film line up for the 2008 Cannes Film Festival was announced on a press conference held at Intercontinental Le Grand Hotel, Paris on Wednesday, April 23, it is revealed that the prestigious film festival will be made merry by the screening of several highly awaited films. Though shunned away from the list of film up for Cannes' top prize, Palme d'Or, "" and "" will be making their world premiere on the event.

"Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" has earlier rumored to be rolling out its red carpet at the fest on May 18 and despite the fact that it has been announced to be among the films screened at the event, the confirmed date has yet to be unveiled. On the case of "Panda", Variety reported that the film featuring the voices of and will be viewed on May 15. Aside from the action adventure film starring and the DreamWorks' animation, other films scheduled to be viewed out of the competition on the event are Woody Allen's "" and Kim Jee-woon's "The Good, the Bad, the Weird".

The feature trailer of "" has been released online by DreamWorks Animation. Featuring the voices of , , and , the trailer that runs over two minutes showcases the comic act of the leading character, Po, as he tried his best to be one of the Kung Fu masters.

The animated video footage begins as the narrator speaks about the background of the Kung Fu master stating that despite successfully trained five legendary warriors, the master hasn't met his biggest challenge yet. As he says that, Po, the Kung Fu master-wanna-be came into the screen apparently exhausted after climbing the steep wall leading to the master's palace.

The slacker Panda finally makes its initial move to grace the moviegoers online. Yes, a new promo teaser trailer for "" has been surfaced on the net, giving us few glimpses of footage from the movie as well as early look on the characters featured.

Apparently attached to "" DVD, the promo teaser is brought up by and can be viewed on Animatie.blog.nl. Besides the brief footage, it also features key voice cast member discussing the animated flick while displaying his comical kung fu moves throughout.

Based on the announcement outed by DreamWorks Animation, the like of , , and Ian McShane are joining in the cast of the computer-animated comedy "." Meanwhile, award-winning actress Lucy Liu is still in talks to lend her voice in the animation movie.

As of Black, he is set to voice Po the Panda, the laziest of all the animals in the Valley of Peace. Hoffman will voice the role of Shifu, while Chan will lend his voice to Master Monkey. McShane is about to voice the villainous Tai Lung, while Liu is in discussions to be the voice of Master Viper.

You may think it's impossible for panda to do what so-called as Kung Fu. It's possible somehow. Wanna see one? Watch Dreamworks Animation's "" which is due in 2008. Mark Osborne and John Stevenson will direct the film.

Written by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab, the film will star as the monochromatic martial arts machine. The actor is set to voice a lazy panda prophesied to save the pandas' home in the Valley of Peace.
