In the bustling heart of New York City, Bertram Pincus, a misanthropic dentist played by Ricky Gervais, finds his solitary life upended after a routine medical procedure leaves him with an unsettling new ability: he can see ghosts. Thrust into a spectral Manhattan teeming with the unresolved dead, Bertram is relentlessly haunted by a smooth-talking spirit named Frank, portrayed by Greg Kinnear, who offers him a deal. If Bertram can prevent Frank’s archaeologist widow, Gwen (Tea Leoni), from marrying her seemingly perfect new fiancé (Billy Campbell), the ghosts will leave him alone. This witty and heartfelt comedy from director David Koepp follows a cynical man’s reluctant journey through a world he never believed in, forcing him to connect with the living and the dead in ways that challenge his entire worldview. As Bertram navigates this supernatural predicament, he discovers that engaging with life might just be the key to finding peace for everyone, including himself.
