Kenny Ortega Bows Out From 'Footloose' Remake
October 26, 2009 10:10:49"Footloose" is currently director-less with the withdrawal of the appointed Kenny Ortega from the remake project. The news broke out to the surface only days to the theatrical release of Michael Jackson's "This Is It", in which this "High School Musical" director/choreographer is serving as helmer.
According to Variety, both Ortega and Paramount Picture have confirmed his exit and put "This Is It" as the reason why. The statement released by Ortega's camp read, "Coming off the extraordinary project, Michael Jackson's 'This is It,' director Kenny Ortega has decided it is premature for him to commit to his next film and will not be moving forward with 'Footloose' as previously reported."

Chace Crawford Training Intensely for 'Footloose' Remake
August 12, 2009 12:08:42Though busy shooting for The CW drama series "Gossip Girl", Chace Crawford has been preparing for his upcoming film "Footloose", which will begin shooting soon. In an interview with MTV during 2009 Teen Choice Awards, the 24-year-old actor revealed that he has joined a dance training, "I'm training right now in New York, and it's pretty intense."
Sharing on his preparation for the remake of Kevin Bacon's 1984 musical film, the TV star compared his dance skills to Willard, a character in the original movie who doesn't know how to dance until Ren teaches him. "I'm more like [Chris Penn's character] Willard, trying to learn the dances at this point," he said. "I'm getting muscles that I didn't even know were there worked out."

Confirmed, Julianne Hough in Talks for 'Footloose' Remake
June 20, 2009 02:06:48Julianne Hough, the two-time champion of "Dancing with the Stars", is officially in talks to join the cast of Paramount Pictures' remake of "Footloose". The Hollywood Reporter came out with a story that the singer/dancer is pursuing to make her film debut and join Chace Crawford in the project.
Hough was previously rumored to have auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore which was once made famous by Lori Singer. About her, director Kenny Ortega has said during his appearance at 2009 MTV Movie Awards, "I love her. I adore her. I'm a big fan of hers. Not only how beautiful but how deep her talent goes."

'Footloose' Remake Gets Release Date
May 13, 2009 03:05:52"Footloose", the remake of the 1984 dancing movie starring Kevin Bacon, has got its U.S. release date. Contrary to the original movie which was released in winter 1984, Exhibitor Relations broke the news that this re-imagining of the hit musical movie will be hitting the big screen in summer.
On Tuesday, May 12, the box-office tracking firm wrote that Paramount Pictures eyes to release it in U.S. theaters on June 18, 2010. The summer date placed "Footloose" to be in competition with Disney/Pixar's long-awaited "Toy Story 3". The release date announcement came in even before any actors are attached to this Kenny Ortega-directed project.

Hayden Panettiere Auditioned for 'Footloose'

Online, the "Heroes" beauty has auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore, the love interest of main character Ren, in the updated remake of the popular '80s film.
E!'s reporter Marc Malkin noted that the 19-year-old has sung for the filmmakers and her singing ability allegedly impressed them. "They were really impressed," Malkin quoted an insider of the audition. "No one realized what a good singer she is." Should Panettiere make it to the next round, she is likely to have a dance audition and a read with Crawford. Still, her representative remained mum on this story.

Clarifying the brewing rumor was a spokesperson to the studio who contacted Entertainment Weekly and insisted that the remake project is "still moving forward".
When asked further on whether Chace Crawford has indeed tested for the lead role to fill in Efron's vacant part, the representative offered no comment, stating that "casting is still in progress." In the meantime, EW noted that two different sources have pointed out that the "Gossip Girl" heartthrob has met director Kenny Ortega, but it isn't clear whether it was for an official "screen test".

Of the matter, The Wrap reported that the "High School Musical" hottie has pulled out from the Paramount Pictures' planned remake project in his effort to break away from typecasting.
According to a senior member of the production team, as noted by the publication, the Link Larkin of "Hairspray" told the studio last week that he did not want to do another musical at this point in his career. The source further claimed that Efron had script approval and used a loophole to get out of his contract, adding "People had been working on this project since last July - we were all shocked."

According to Variety, the modern version of 1984 Herbert Ross' movie, is now prepared to see its production kicked off in Spring 2009.
In order to make sure everything is ready for Spring production, Paramount have brought in "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" director Peter Sollett to the writing crew. Sollett will rewrite the script penned by Jon Hartmere. Additionally, the studio have also signed on Craig Zadan and Neil Meron as the producers alongside Dylan Sellers.

Hey! i think it's great there making a remake of footloose! just be carefull not to ruin it, cuz footloose is like one of the best musicals of man kind. Zac Efron probably looks most like the main guy but he has'nt had much experience on acting as others have, but he'll do awesome!
