"" is currently director-less with the withdrawal of the appointed Kenny Ortega from the remake project. The news broke out to the surface only days to the theatrical release of 's "", in which this "High School Musical" director/choreographer is serving as helmer.

According to Variety, both Ortega and Paramount Picture have confirmed his exit and put "This Is It" as the reason why. The statement released by Ortega's camp read, "Coming off the extraordinary project, Michael Jackson's 'This is It,' director Kenny Ortega has decided it is premature for him to commit to his next film and will not be moving forward with 'Footloose' as previously reported."

Though busy shooting for The CW drama series "", has been preparing for his upcoming film "", which will begin shooting soon. In an interview with MTV during 2009 Teen Choice Awards, the 24-year-old actor revealed that he has joined a dance training, "I'm training right now in New York, and it's pretty intense."

Sharing on his preparation for the remake of 's 1984 musical film, the TV star compared his dance skills to Willard, a character in the original movie who doesn't know how to dance until Ren teaches him. "I'm more like [Chris Penn's character] Willard, trying to learn the dances at this point," he said. "I'm getting muscles that I didn't even know were there worked out."

Hough was previously rumored to have auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore which was once made famous by Lori Singer. About her, director Kenny Ortega has said during his appearance at 2009 MTV Movie Awards, "I love her. I adore her. I'm a big fan of hers. Not only how beautiful but how deep her talent goes."

"", the remake of the 1984 dancing movie starring , has got its U.S. release date. Contrary to the original movie which was released in winter 1984, Exhibitor Relations broke the news that this re-imagining of the hit musical movie will be hitting the big screen in summer.

On Tuesday, May 12, the box-office tracking firm wrote that Paramount Pictures eyes to release it in U.S. theaters on June 18, 2010. The summer date placed "Footloose" to be in competition with Disney/Pixar's long-awaited "". The release date announcement came in even before any actors are attached to this Kenny Ortega-directed project.

According to Variety, the modern version of 1984 Herbert Ross' movie, is now prepared to see its production kicked off in Spring 2009.

Striving to expand his big screen credits after "" and "Seventeen", is reportedly engaged in talks to topline Paramount Pictures’ musical feature "", which turns out to be a remake of the studio’s 1984 flick directed by Herbert Ross.

Along with Efron, TV director Kenny Ortega is also in negotiations to perform double task of helming and choreographing. If deals are reached, pic therefore will extend the collaboration between the two that has been established since Disney Channel Original Movies’ hit "High School Musical."

I feel strongly that Julianne Hough from Dancing with the Stars, should be considered for the staring female role in the new Footloose.

Hey! i think it's great there making a remake of footloose! just be carefull not to ruin it, cuz footloose is like one of the best musicals of man kind. Zac Efron probably looks most like the main guy but he has'nt had much experience on acting as others have, but he'll do awesome!

this is so stupid! the old footloose movie was awesome and does NOT deserve to be remade! and zac efron is so not good enough to play ren! kevin bacon was and still is awesome and NOBODY can replace him!!!!!!!
