'Cloudy with a Chance' Sticks to Box Office's Top

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" sizzled once again at the North American weekend box office. Debuted atop the chart with $30.3 million last week, the 3-D animated family comedy held firm at its crowned position and denied newly-released actioner "Surrogates" from taking over the throne.

Holding up strong, the CG movie revolving around a scientist's attempt to solve world hunger that goes awry collected $25 million in its second week and thus had earned $60.5 million after 10 days in theaters. With an 17.4% drop in ticket sales, it had the third-lowest second-weekend drop of any film this year, following behind "Taken" and "Coraline".

Debuted atop the North American box office, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" experienced one sunny weekend. Meeting industry expectation that projected it to earn around the $25 million-$30 million range, this new 3-D animated family comedy has pulled in $30.3 million in total since it opened Friday, September 18.

The children's book adaptation scored the highest-grossing September animation debut on record. The $30 million bow topped Sony's other animation film, "Open Season", which collected $23.6 million during its first three days weekend in 2006. In the overall highest-grossing September opening rank, "Cloudy" was third behind "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Rush Hour".

Spaghetti Storm in New 'Cloudy With a Chance' Clip

Yahoo! Movies has got a hold of a brand new clip from "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". The snippet is a little more than one minute long and opens to an introduction from Neil Patrick Harris who gives voice to Steve the Monkey. It features the scene where the town is being hit by spaghetti storm and Flint Lockwood is trying to fix it.

Inspired by the children's book written by author Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, the 3-D animated film attempts to tell the origins of the unique weather in the town of Chewandswallow. It follows Flint Lockwood, a young inventor who tries to solve world hunger by making food fall from the sky like rain. However, things go terribly wrong when excess amounts of food overload cities and towns.

Another trailer of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" has been uncovered. Posted at MySpace, the new promo video is narrated by pivotal character Flint Lockwood himself. Explaining that he is an aspiring inventor, Flint chronicles on how he finally comes up with the machine that makes food falling from the skies, and how his invention turns to be a disaster.

Inspired by the children's book written by author Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It features Bill Hader as the voice talent of Flint and Anna Faris as Sam Sparks, a weathergirl covering the phenomenon who hides her intelligence behind a perky exterior. James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T and Tracy Morgan also join the two in the voice cast ensemble.

Sony Pictures Animation have just debuted the first trailer of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". The more than two minutes video focuses on sharing the background story of pivotal character Flint Lockwood. Introducing Flint as an aspiring inventor, this trailer first presents some of his unusual inventions before unveiling his greatest invention of all.

Sony Pictures Acquired "A Chance of Meatballs"

What's new on Hollywood's film industry is that Sony Pictures Animation has acquired film rights to the classic children's book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs".

The animation flick, which the studio is now developing, will be based on the illustrated book by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett which imagines a fanciful world where it rains juice and snows mashed potatoes and spaghetti.
