In the stifling suburb of Cemetery Junction in 1970s England, three friends dream of a life beyond their working-class roots. Christian Cooke stars as Freddie, a young man determined to escape his father's factory fate by becoming a door-to-door salesman for a dubious insurance firm run by the formidable Mr. Kendrick, played by Ralph Fiennes. His restless best friend, Bruce (Tom Hughes), copes with a turbulent home life through rebellion and bravado, while their lovable but hapless mate Snork (Jack Doolan) seeks simple pleasures. Freddie's ambitions are complicated when he reconnects with his old school crush, Julie (Felicity Jones), who happens to be the spirited but engaged daughter of his intimidating boss. Co-written and co-directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, this poignant dramedy blends sharp wit with heartfelt emotion as it explores the timeless clash between youthful aspiration and the gravitational pull of a familiar, suffocating hometown. The friends must navigate first loves, fractured families, and the daunting question of whether to conform or break free.
