Wolfmother is an Australian hard rock band renowned for their energetic sound and classic rock influences. Formed in 2004 in Sydney, the band quickly rose to prominence, with their single "Woman" becoming a defining hit in 2006. The group is primarily centered around the talents of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, who has been the only consistent member throughout various line-up changes over the years. Their music is characterized by a blend of hard rock, stoner rock, and psychedelic elements, drawing comparisons to iconic bands such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

The origins of Wolfmother trace back to informal jam sessions between Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett. After several years of honing their craft, they signed with independent label Modular Recordings and released their self-titled debut album in Australia in 2005. The album quickly gained traction, reaching number three on the Australian albums chart and eventually selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide after its international release by Interscope and Island Records in 2006. The success of the album and its singles, particularly "Woman," helped establish Wolfmother as a significant force in the rock music scene.

In 2008, setbacks occurred when Ross and Heskett departed from the band after four years, leaving Stockdale to navigate the challenges of rebuilding Wolfmother. He brought in new members, including bassist and keyboardist Ian Peres, rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth, and drummer Dave Atkins, resulting in the creation of their second album, "Cosmic Egg," released in 2009. Although the album continued to showcase their hard rock prowess, it did not achieve the same level of commercial success as their debut.

The years that followed saw Wolfmother undergo frequent personnel changes, impacting their stability and popularity. In 2013, Stockdale released "Keep Moving," which marked his solo debut and was initially intended as the band's third album. Subsequently, a new line-up featuring drummer Vin Steele produced "New Crown," which was released independently in 2014. The band's trajectory shifted once again in 2016 with the release of "Victorious," their first album on a major label since "Cosmic Egg." This album reestablished their presence in the rock genre and was supported by extensive touring with drummer Alex Carapetis.

As of the latest updates, Wolfmother continues to evolve, with Stockdale actively pursuing both band and solo projects. He released his second solo album, "Slipstream," in 2018, showcasing his versatility as a musician. While the band has experienced fluctuations in commercial success and line-up stability, Wolfmother remains a prominent name in the hard rock landscape, celebrated for their powerful sound and the enduring legacy of their early hits.
