Penelope Cruz Takes Home 2009 ALMA Award

Having won the prestigious Academy Award and BAFTA among others, the 35-year-old was honored as Best Actress for her performance as Maria Elena in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" at this year's ALMA Awards. The title was given during a gala ceremony held at the Royce Hall Auditorium at UCLA.
The Spanish actress was not the only movie star winning the ALMA award on Thursday night, September 17. Actor John Leguizamo also took home one kudo for his drama comedy "Nothing Like the Holidays". For his portrayal of Mauricio Rodriguez, the Debra Messing's co-star was hailed Best Actor.

On Tuesday, August 25 at a news conference at Beso Restaurant, NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia and Executive Producer Eva Longoria revealed that there will be 11 actors and 8 actresses competing for Best Actor and Best Actress.
Among those vying for Best Actor of the Year title are "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" leading man Javier Bardem, "Two Lovers" star Joaquin Phoenix and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" actor Ramon Rodriguez. Meanwhile, the actresses receiving nominations include Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes, Michelle Rodriguez, Penelope Cruz and Rosario Dawson.

Promising a gritty look at the unforeseen ramifications of race, religion, revenge and ethnic politics, this movie revolves around Celeste Santana, a NYPD detective whose father was murdered in the line of duty. One clue about her father's killer left on the crime scene was a pamphlet from a mysterious religious group known only as "The Ministers".

Movies has got a hold on an exclusive inside look at the animated comedy about three misfit friends living during the Ice Age era. Coming out in the form of a featurette, the inside look video features many fresh footage as well as partial interview with many of the film's voice talents and director.
Speaking up first is director Carlos Saldanha, who promises that "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" is made on a bigger scale compared to the first two "Ice Age" movies with the addition of Dinosaurs for the trio's new adventures. John Leguizamo, who gives voice to Sid, then takes over, explaining that this third movie will have a lot of action sequences, before Queen Latifah, who voices Ellie, states the pregnancy story.

Rolling down the red carpet in front of Ziegfeld Theatre in New York, the studio presented a star-studded event for the New York premiere of their upcoming drama film welcoming A-listers from cast member Kerry Washington to rapper Swizz Beatz.

Five Added to Robert De Niro-Al Pacino Starrer Righteous Kill

More are being picked to accompany Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in "Righteous Kill" as Nu Image and Millennium Films, studios producing the crime drama, have smoothly had the likes of John Leguizamo, Brian Dennehy, Dan Futterman, Trilby Glover, and pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek all signed to round out the cast lineup, Variety has reported.
Written by "Inside Man" scribe Russell Gewirtz, project centers on long time police detectives, played by Pacino and De Niro, who team up to investigate a series of vigilante killings in New York City. Leguizamo is billed as a cop in NYPD who butts heads with Pacino and De Niro's characters as they search for a serial killer while Dennehy fills in the role of their captain. Futterman and Glover, in the meantime, will both portray attorneys with Dyrdek becoming a delinquent who crosses paths with the detectives during their investigations.

Latin star John Leguizamo is in the brink to make a reunion with Franc. Reyes after their 2002 collaboration in "Empire." The 42-year-old actor currently is engaged in negotiations to take a role in Reyes' new directorial project "The Ministers."
Intended to be a thriller feature, the picture revolves around a female NYPD detective whose personal and professional lives are becoming murderously intertwined with a mysterious group known as The Ministers. Filming is expected to begin next December in New York with Reyes also working on the script.
Three More to Spread "Cholera"

The list gets bigger this time. Three more stars namely John Leguizamo, Hector Elizondo, and Fernanda Montenegro have been confirmed to join the cast of "Love in the Time of Cholera", the New Line Cinema's adaptation of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez's book, Variety has reported.
With this inclusion, the trio therefore is the latest addition in the line-up after the recruitment of Javier Bardem, Benjamin Bratt, and Giovanna Mezzogiorno. Production is scheduled to begin on September 4 in Cartagena, Colombia, and London with Scott Steindorff producing through his Stone Village banner.

Being consistent in recognizing positive portrayals of Latinos in entertainment industry, Imagen Awards once more comes to the surface this year with notable names included in the nomination list announced Thursday, June 29. In category of Best Leading Actor, there lined up the likes of Antonio Banderas, Andy Garcia, and John Leguizamo while that of Best Leading Actress put together Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, Ines Sastre, also America Ferrera, who received praise from her performance in acclaimed teen flick "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants."
Other stars who nabbed nomination at the event included Alexa Vega, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Michael Pena, Jimmy Smits, and Danny Pino, the latter three being nominated in the same category of Best Lead TV Actor. Meanwhile, "The Lost City", "Take the Lead", and "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D" have been mentioned as the three finalists for the Best Picture category.
