Formed in Orlando, Florida in January 2004, Alter Bridge emerged from the hiatus of the multi-platinum rock band Creed, establishing itself as a formidable and enduring force in modern rock. The band united former Creed members guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips with a powerful new voice, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy. Their chemistry was immediate, and they formally unveiled Alter Bridge just months before Creed's official dissolution later that year.
Signing with Wind-up Records, the band quickly released their debut album, "One Day Remains," in August 2004. While receiving a mixed critical reception, the album was a commercial success, debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and achieving RIAA gold certification by November. The record showcased Tremonti's foundational songwriting and introduced the world to Kennedy's soaring vocals, setting the stage for their evolution. Their 2007 sophomore effort, "Blackbird," marked a significant creative leap, earning widespread critical praise and beginning the band's long-standing production partnership with Michael Baskette. The album's ambitious title track became an instant fan favorite and a cornerstone of their live performances.
The band navigated a period where members split time with other successful projects, including Tremonti's self-titled solo band and Kennedy's work with Slash. Despite this, Alter Bridge maintained a steady output, releasing the acclaimed "AB III" in 2010 on Roadrunner Records, which spawned the chart-topping Mainstream Rock hit "Isolation." They followed with 2013's "Fortress," which further solidified their reputation for crafting complex, heavy, and melodic rock. Their commercial momentum continued to build with 2016's "The Last Hero," which became their first top-ten Billboard 200 album since their debut and reached the top five in the United Kingdom.
Alter Bridge released "Walk the Sky" in 2019, followed by an expanded version, "Walk the Sky 2.0," the next year. Their seventh studio album, "Pawns & Kings," arrived in October 2022 to positive reviews, featuring the Grammy-nominated single "Silver Tongue." As of 2023, the band has sold over five million records worldwide. Their self-titled eighth studio album, "Alter Bridge," was released on January 9, 2026. Renowned for their musicianship and intense live shows, the band has cultivated a dedicated global fanbase and remains a pillar of contemporary rock, consistently delivering powerful anthems built on a foundation of intricate guitar work and compelling lyrical themes.
