Born Alicia Roanne Witt on August 21, 1975, in Worcester, Massachusetts, she first gained public attention as a child actress after being discovered by acclaimed director David Lynch. Her early career was marked by notable performances in Dune (1984), where she portrayed the character Alia, and in the cult television series Twin Peaks (1990), playing Gersten Hayward.

Witt's breakthrough came when she joined the cast of the sitcom Cybill (1995–1998), where she played Zoey Woodbine, the daughter of the titular character portrayed by Cybill Shepherd. Her performance on the show garnered her recognition and showcased her comedic talent.
