AceShowbiz - The long-awaited sequel to 2021's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" is finally coming next year. To tide fans over the wait until its release, Sony has released the first teaser trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire".
Arriving on Wednesday, November 8, the video sees the "Death Chill" taking over New York City during the summer and turning it into a gloomy, icy tundra. Paul Rudd returns to lead Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard in fighting their invisible enemy.
Original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts are also teased in the new sneak peek. The trailer also gives fans the first look at Ghostbusters newbies Kumail Nanjiani as well as Patton Oswalt.
"In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level," its official synopsis read. "But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age."
"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" was first announced back in June 2022. At the time, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" director Jason Reitman wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was driving back into Manhattan: the home of Ghostbusters... That's where our story begins. The code name is FIREHOUSE."
The upcoming sequel is helmed by Gil Kenan, who said in a statement after he was announced as its director, "It's an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga." He added, "I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a 'Ghostbusters' film."
"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" will be released on March 29, 2024.
