"I'm stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere," Pine told Business Insider. "Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty Jenkins is such a thoughtful director."
Despite his initial skepticism about playing Trevor, Pine was ultimately drawn to the character's romantic relationship with Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. "When have you seen a superhero film that was a love story, ultimately? That had nothing to do with blowing s**t up," he said.
While Pine is unlikely to reprise his role in a third Wonder Woman movie, he opened up about his struggle to get cast as Trevor. "I had no interest in playing the boyfriend," he revealed. "But Patty described it as 'a romance, this is 'Casablanca'.' "
In a separate interview, Pine recounted how being cast in "Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" significantly impacted his financial situation. "I had an overdraft in my bank account," he recalled. "When I got paid $65,000, it was like my life had changed."
Despite the substantial salary, Pine admitted that his financial stability was short-lived. "I owed my parents rent money," he said. "But it's a wild feeling. I'll never forget that."
