**Independence Day: Resurgence** (also known as ID4-2) is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Brent Spiner, and Sela Ward. It is the sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day, and the second installment in the Independence Day film series. The film is scheduled to be released on June 24, 2016.
The film follows the events of the first film, in which Earth was attacked by an alien invasion. Twenty years later, the aliens return to Earth with a more powerful force, and the human race must once again band together to defend their planet.
