Freddie joins Spencer to go fencing and have some guy time. When Spencer's rival, the amazing Doug Toder, sees how good Freddie is, Spencer puts Freddie up against him in a match of fencing. Carly is mad at Spencer both for not helping her out during the Dorfmans' visit and fencing, so she stops him from doing it by telling Freddie's mom. Meanwhile, Sam must read a book to win a bet between Freddie and her, and, as a result, she suddenly becomes interested in books for the first time.
