After a miserable dinner service, three chefs are currently standing in front of Chef Gordon Ramsay facing elimination: Patrick and Guy from the Blue Team and Danielle from the Red Team. Chef Ramsay asks Danielle to turn in her jacket and leave Hell's Kitchen.

The contestants retreat to the dorms for some rest before the next day's challenge. The Red Team becomes even more divided, breaking into two alliances. One is made up of Kimmie, Tiffany, and Robyn. The other includes Christina, Dana, and Barbie. In the meantime, the Blue Team attacks Patrick for not being a strong enough leader, and Royce tries to unsuccessfully take over at the helm. Both teams are more fractured than ever.

The next morning the teams put aside their differences and meet Chef Ramsay in the dining room. He gives them a lesson food business trends, from '50s Jell-O molds and TV dinners to '70s fondue and '90s Asian fusion.

He tells them that as with food trends, there are trends in clothing design - and he announces that for the first time ever, there's going to be fashion night at Hell's Kitchen. Chef Ramsay introduces them to three acclaimed designers who will be judging their next challenge: David Meister, Amanda Ché, and Ina Soltani.

Both teams have 30 minutes to come up with a stunning three-course tasting menu made up of one appetizer and two entrees - one seafood and one poultry. The winning dishes will be featured on the menu at the first-ever Hell's Kitchen fashion night.

Justin and Brian work together to design the Blue Team's appetizer, and Dana takes over on the Red Team's starter. Clemenza collaborates with Royce and Guy on the fish entrée. In the Red Kitchen, Robyn and Kimmie don't agree on their fish dish while Tiffany is in charge of the poultry.

First up for appetizers, Justin presents the Blue Team's seasonal bean salad with lobster. The judges do not think the foam is visually appealing and feel the flavors do not have a "wow" factor. Dana's chilled mango broth with crabmeat is not elegant looking enough for the designers, but it still gets their vote for the Red Team.

Next, Patrick brings the judges his Moroccan squab. When he describes the use of vinegar to "thin the mucus," the judges and Chef Ramsay recoil. After tasting it, David says, "I like it. I don't love it." Tiffany's pan-roasted squab with eggplant fries does not follow the instructions given for healthy, low-fat foods. The judges like the taste but not the presentation. The point goes to the Blue Team.

With the score tied, it comes down to Royce, Clemenza, and Guy's swordfish versus Robyn and Kimmie's sea bass. Although the judges like the Blue Team's dish, they would want some refinements in the presentation. The judges feel that the Red Team's fish lacks spices. The final point is awarded to the Blue Team, marking the first win for the men this season.

As the prize for their victory in the tasting menu challenge, the Blue Team heads off for a shopping spree and wine tasting in Malibu. The Red Team is left behind to transform the restaurant for fashion night, including building a runway and making centerpieces. To blow off a little steam, the girls strut their stuff on the runway they just labored hard to build before moving on to set the tables. Meanwhile, the men enjoy many glasses of exquisite wine in their expensive new clothes.

When the women finish their punishment in the dining room, there's more conflict in the dorms. Kimmie turns on her ally, Robyn, castigating her for not putting enough spice in their fish dish, causing them to lose the challenge. This even further divides the Red Team.

After a day of hard work for the women and hard play for the men, both teams get to bed early. Clemenza rises at the crack of dawn and wakes his teammates to get ready for the next dinner service.

As the chefs get their day started, preparations begin for the big fashion show. With a brand-new menu, the teams definitely have their work cut out for them. In the Blue Kitchen, tensions mount as Clemenza barks orders. Meanwhile, in the Red Kitchen, the fallout from yesterday's challenge is turning toxic. Kimmie again fights with Robyn over the bland fish, unwilling to let it go. Kimmie retreats outside and takes a few swings at a punching bag to relieve her frustration, leaving the Red Team one player short during prep.

Chef Ramsay enters the Red Kitchen and begins giving them a pep talk. Kimmie vows to put her differences with Robyn aside and help the team pull together to get through dinner service.

With Hell's Kitchen moments from opening, Chef Ramsay gathers the competitors for some last-minute instructions. He begs them to make the fashion night a success. He informs them the first catwalk takes place before they serve appetizers. The next part will happen between the starters and the entrees. He explains, "If there was ever a night that timing was absolutely critical, it is tonight."

Because the dishes need to look stunning, he chooses one member of each team to help plate the dishes. He selects Kimmie from the Red Team and Royce from the Blue Team and warns them, "Do not screw it up!" The teams stand by waiting for the runway show to begin, but Clemenza jumps the gun and starts cooking the scallops leaving his team wondering if he will be kicked out before service even begins.
