A beautiful, naked amnesiac (Jaimie Alexander) is found in Times Square covered in mysterious tattoos, including one bearing the name of FBI Agent Kurt A beautiful, naked amnesiac is found in a bag in Times Square, covered in fresh tattoos - one of which is the name of FBI Special Agent Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton). FBI Assistant Director Bethany Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) sends Weller to the scene to retrieve Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander), then bring her to HQ so the team, including Edgar Reade (Rob Brown), Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza), Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and psychiatrist Dr. Borden (Ukweli Roach) can start cataloguing her mysterious tattoos, not more than three weeks old. Apparently, Jane's system is flooded with an experimental PKM-zeta inhibitor, thus her chemically induced amnesia. Jane can't remember her name, but, strangely, her unusual abilities seem to resurface when needed. For instance, when Jane spies the string of tattooed Chinese characters behind her ear, she's able to read an address and today's date. She insists on accompanying Weller and his team to the address - maybe she'll recognize a clue to her identity - where the team is drawn into a case involving a young Chinese bomb-maker named Chao. It's a tough 48 hours, and by the end of it, Chao is comatose in the hospital, and Jane learns she's more than good in a fight, a crack shot and has a Navy SEAL tattoo - even though there's not one female in their database. Weller has a newfound respect for Jane, pointing out to Mayfair that her tattoos just saved hundreds of people - and triggered her first memory, of running an outdoor firing course with a ruggedly handsome man. What Mayfair doesn't tell anyone is that one of Jane's tattoos, the number Z181899Z, matches a redacted case file on her desk. And what Jane can't know is that the ruggedly handsome man from her memory is making sure Chao never wakes up. And that he was the one who administered the drug that wiped away her identity - which she believed to be her "only choice".
