The Oscar winner, who was married to the Queen of Pop from 1985 to 1989, recalled the time that his home was raided by the SWAT team after his ex called the police because she was concerned about guns in the house.

AceShowbiz - Sean Penn has made it clear that he never put his hands on Madonna. In a new interview, the "Mystic River" actor shut down long-standing rumors about him beating his then-wife with a baseball bat.

"I had a freaking SWAT team come into my house," the 63-year-old said during a sit-down with The New York Times. He added that the Queen of Pop had told police she was worried about guns in the house.

"I said, 'I'm not coming out. I'm going to finish my breakfast.' The next thing I knew, windows were being broken all around the house and they came in," he further recalled. "They had me in handcuffs."

Sean and Madonna were married from 1985 to 1989. The "Material Girl" hitmaker first filed for divorce from her then-husband in 1987, only to withdraw it later. However, she submitted the divorce papers for the second time after calling it quits for good.

Both times Madonna filed the paperwork, reports suggested that Sean physically assaulted the pop star. He was also accused of tying her to a chair for hours.

Contrary to the allegations, Sean described Madonna as "someone I love." He went on to share to NYT, "It turns out it's a lot quicker to repair a friendship after divorce if there are not kids involved. It took [ex-wife Robin Wright] and I quite a while. There was a lot of drama. Much more important to repair it if there are kids involved, but no easy swing, right?"

Madonna herself has declared that Sean never physically abused her during their marriage. "While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, 'tied me up,' or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false," she stated in a 2015 statement while testifying on Sean's behalf in a defamation lawsuit against Lee Daniels.

After splitting from Madonna, Sean married Robin Wright in 1996. They got divorced in 2010. Ten years later, the Oscar winner wed Australian actress Leila Goerge and they finalized their divorce in April 2022.

Now that he's single, Sean told The New York Times that he is "thrilled every day" to be "just free." He went on to gush, "If I'm going to be in a relationship, I'm still going to be free, or I'm not going to be in it, and I'm not going to be hurting. I don’t sense I'll have my heart broken by romance again."
