AceShowbiz - Beyonce Knowles opened up about the story behind her shocking pixie cut back in 2013. The "Renaissance" artist revealed in a new interview that her decision to chop her long hair was heavily influenced by "a very big emotional transformation."
"I remember the day I decided to just cut all my hair off," the "TEXAS HOLD 'EM" singer told Essence. "I didn't have a particular style in mind. It wasn't an aesthetic choice, but it was a very big emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I was going through."
The 42-year-old Grammy winner also noted that cutting her hair was a way for her to rebel against people's expectations of her as a woman. "Cutting my hair off was me rebelling against being this woman that society thinks I'm supposed to be," she explained. "I was a new mother, and something about the liberation of becoming a mother made me want to just shed all of that. It was a physical representation of me shedding the expectations put upon me. I just wanted it off."
While Beyonce was happy with her new look, her hairstylist Neal Farinah "was freaking out" because her hair "was really long, really thick and really healthy." The Queen Bey, however, never regretted the decision, saying, "I just got the scissors and chopped it off. It was very intentional. And it was what I needed to do. And after that, I became super brave. It was the first step to many more audacious decisions I made in my life and my career that have led to who I am now."
That aside, Beyonce recently excited her fans, known as Beyhives, by announcing that "Act II", a second part of her acclaimed 2022 album "Renaissance", is coming on March 29. Prior to the album release, the wife of Jay-Z treated fans to her new country singles titled "16 CARRIAGES" and "TEXAS HOLD 'EM".
Her decision to release a country album garnered mixed responses not only from fans, but also from fellow artists. Country singers K. Michelle and Maren Morris were supportive of Bey, while Azealia Banks and John Schneider slammed the "Lemonade" singer over her new country era.
Amid the online debate, Beyonce's mom Tina Knowles defended the star by explaining their family's history of cowboy culture. On Saturday, February 17, Tina shared several photos and clips, which were compiled in one video, showing the singer wearing cowboy hats in the beginning of her career. Along with it, she wrote in the caption of the post, "I just came across this video on my IG feed! We have always celebrated Cowboy Culture growing up in Texas."
Tina additionally recalled, "We went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion. [Solange Knowles] did a whole brilliant Album and Project based on Black Cowboy Culture." She then concluded, "It definitely was a part of our culture growing up. video @yvettenoelschure," adding a slew of red heart emojis.
