The 'Saturday Night Live' alum is thinking about the late 'Friends' actor 'a lot' following his tragic death as they went through similar struggle with addictions.

AceShowbiz - John Mulaney easily relates to Matthew Perry's addiction struggles. The 41-year-old comedian has previously checked into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction, and John felt very connected to the former "Friends" actor, who passed away in October, aged 54.

"I really identified with his story. I'm thinking about him a lot," John told Variety.

John released his third Netflix special, "Baby J", earlier this year, and he's keen to share his own struggles with his fans. He said, "Going to rehab and a lot of other things had become public knowledge, and I felt there was no way to start doing stand-up again without going through this."

"I also had a lot to say about it. It had been an extremely eventful time, and the goal from the beginning was to do this as funny as I could make it - not as impactful as I could make it, not to pause for dramatic effect. I just wanted it to be a little wilder and put you in my very confident, demented brain during the time of addiction."

In his Netflix special, John joked that a "star-studded intervention" helped to save his life. The stand-up star said, "Let me just call this out now, I don't mean to be weird. It was a star-studded intervention. It was, like, a good group."

"It was a good group. As mad as I was when I walked in there, I was like, this is a good line-up, this is really flattering in its own way. It was like a 'We Are the World' of alternative comedians over the age of 40. All comedians. Yet no one said a funny thing the entire night."
