Podcaster Shawn Allen, who is involved with 'Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop', defends the exclusion of those two female raptress from the trailer, claiming that they refused to allow their music on it.

AceShowbiz - Neflix's upcoming documentary has got some explaining to do to Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliott supporters. Hip-hop fans are left enraged and confused after these two A-list raptress are snubbed from "Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop".
The trailer for the forthcoming project was recently released online ahead of the series' premiere on August 9. According to the press release, "This timely limited doc series recontextualizes the irrepressible women of hip hop and their role in the genre's 50 years by reinserting them into the canon where they belong: at the center, from day one to present day."
It went on describing the docuseries, "Each of the four installments features a parade of iconic emcees like MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Rah Digga, up-and-comers, and artists currently at the top of the charts like Latto (formerly Mulatto), and Tierra Whack alongside key figures from record labels, stylists, and journalists."
While the likes of Sha-Rock, Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Remy Ma, Yo-Yo, Da Brat, Rah Digga, Bahamadia, Coi Leray, Monie Love, Tierra Whack, Kash Doll, Saweetie, Latto and Rapsody Chika are featured in the trailer, Nicki and Missy are not included.
This has got fans of those two female rap stars fuming, with one tweeting, "We really got to sit down and talk, why do they keep excluding Nicki Minaj from these topics like she isn't the most successful female rapper of all time. They're literally tryna wipe her from the history books due to personal vendettas."
"No Nicki, no Missy, no Foxy, no Trina, no Lauryn...... what's the point," another pointed out. A third person asked, "Nicki? Lauryn? Missy? Left Eye (Lisa Lopes)? Wanda Dee? Foxy? Salt-N-Pepa? Banks? Megan? Not even a tribute to Gangsta Boo who passed away this year?"
Another Twitter user questioned, "How are you gonna have a docuseries about women in hip hop with [sic] Missy Elliot, Lil' Kim, or Nicki Minaj?? Those three women literally carved out the space for women in hip-hop with their bare hands."
"...how is THE Nicki Minaj nowhere to be seen in this...like...?????" a Barb weighed in. Another claimed to have lost interest in the project, saying, "No nicki, trina, lil kim, foxy, or missy elliott …..... yea they can go ahead and scrap this."
Meanwhile, podcaster Shawn Allen, who is involved with the project, has defended the snub from the docuseries. In his tweets reposted by Pop Crave, he said that Minaj and Missy Elliott "didn't" allow their music and videos to be licensed for use in the documentary.
"Missy and Nicki didn't let us license their music," he wrote. When asked if the plan was to include Nicki, Shawn responded, "Yes but it didn't make sense bc she didn't give us any licensing. Her nor Missy." He added in another tweet, "I think bc Nicki is working on her own doc... I don't understand why Missy didn't agree."
