The 80-year-old actor, who has led such hit franchises as 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones', reveals he 'was just hoping I could make a living as an actor.'

AceShowbiz - Harrison Ford "never thought" he would become a leading man. The 80-year-old actor is one of the biggest stars in the movie business, and Harrison has confessed to exceeding his own expectations.

He told PEOPLE, "I never thought that I would be a leading man. I really was just hoping I could make a living as an actor and not have to supplement my income with some other side hustle … I thought I would be lucky to have a character part on a regular TV show."

Harrison has played starring roles in some of the biggest film franchises of all time, including "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones", and he remains as passionate about acting as he ever has been. The Hollywood star, who turns 81 in July, said, "I probably enjoy making movies more now than I ever did."

On the other hand, Harrison insists that fame has never been a motivation for him. He explained, "No one ever believes this, but I never wanted to be rich and famous. I just wanted to be an actor."

Earlier this year, Harrison revealed that he "always wanted a final chapter" in his "Indiana Jones" story. The veteran actor has played the titular character in the money-spinning film franchise since 1981, and he relished the opportunity to revive the character in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny".

Harrison told The Hollywood Reporter, "I'd always wanted a final chapter in the story. We first started thinking about it quite a few years ago. My ambition - all of our ambition - was to come up with a story that dealt with the reality of his age because he was such a physical character. I wanted to see him diminished and revivified by whatever the storyline was and by whoever the characters were. And when we got the story that felt right to everybody, then we went ahead."
