AceShowbiz - Katy Perry got emotional in the Sunday, February 26 episode of "American Idol". In the new outing, the "Dark Horse" hitmaker could not help but cry following an epic performance by a contestant named Trey Louis, who is a Sante Fe High School shooting survivor.

When asked why he wanted to do the show, Trey told the judges that he wanted to "bring some positivity" back to his hometown. The 21-year-old mattress salesman offered a performance of "Stone" by Whiskey Myers.

After Trey concluded his performance, Katy put her head in her hands and yelled, "Our country has f**king failed us!" Trey responded, "Facts." The "Firework" singer added, "This is not okay. You should be singing here because you love music."

Trey shared that he "lost a lot of friends" in the school shooting that took place on May 18, 2018. "I hope that you remind people that we have to change. Because you know what, I'm scared, too," Katy said while crying. As for Lionel Richie, he wiped away a tear. Fellow judge Luke Bryan, meanwhile, comforted Katy by putting his hand on Katy's shoulder.

Lionel was impressed by Trey's performance, so he gave the contestant his first "yes." Lionel added that he "can't wait to see" him in Hollywood. Luke also voted for him as he praised Trey, "You're perfect." Katy then gave Trey his third and final "yes" before all the judges hugged Trey.

Ten people, including 8 students, lost their lives at the 2018 Sante Fe High School shooting. At the time, the incident was named deadliest school shooting in Texas. Unfortunately, another school shooting took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde in May 2022 with 22 people dead. In the wake of the Uvalde school shooting, President Biden signed a bipartisan gun safety bill into law.
